The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized, computer-based assessment. More than 5,400 programs offered by more than 1,500 universities and institutions in 83 countries use the GMAT exam as part of the selection criteria for their programs site. Business schools use the test as a criterion for admission into a wide range of graduate management programs, including MBA, Master of Accountancy, and Master of Finance programs.

The test always begins with the AWA section followed by the quantitative section and then the verbal section. The experimental Section can be either a quantitative section or a verbal section and its order in test is not decided.
 
The verbal section measures the test taker’s ability to read and comprehend written material, reason and evaluate arguments and to correct written material. It includes Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning and Sentence Correction. The Quantitative Section of the GMAT exam measures basic mathematical skills and understanding of elementary concepts and the ability to reason qualitatively, some quantitative problems and interpret graphic data.

A candidate can take the GMAT once every 31 calendar days and no more than five times in a 12-month period.
