IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is used as the language of communication. It is recognised widely as a language requirement for all courses in further and higher education. It is readily available at test centres around the world which arrange test administrations according to local demand. The test shows the overall ability as well as performance of the test taker in listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. IELTS is jointly managed by The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), The British Council and IDP Education Australia: IELTS Australia.
